FARMER CITY - Dorothy Arlene Sobkoviak Marcott, a.k.a "Dottie," 87, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Nov. 12, 2024).
She was born May 9, 1937, in Watseka.
Dottie was an artist who loved painting, needlework, sewing and once managed a fabric store. She also loved crafting, picture framing, baking (bread) and cooking. She ended her work career at Sears, where she retired.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. One of her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren and spending time with them. For many years, she enjoyed her annual fall trip to Virginia to visit her daughter, Cindy. Locally, she was a hospice volunteer, Sunday school and VBS teacher, divorce care facilitator and avid Bible study student with her Meadowbrook Community Church family, Bible Study Fellowship, etc. Studying the Bible was a great passion in her life.
You could often find her spending afternoons running prayer chains, giving her last dollar to charitable organizations or easing woes around the kitchen table, where many a visitor sought her advice and company. Though she carried herself with such grace, she was also a fierce and funny woman who always found the light in the darkest of times and was always willing to ignite others' candles. She fully embodied the spirit of a true Christian and loved others unconditionally - even the "ornery" ones, which included many family members who enjoyed teasing her into a laugh. Dorothy means "Gift of God," which aptly describes who she was, a true gift to those who loved her.
Survivors include her son Leslie Marcott of Champaign; daughter Cindy Marcott of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter Julie Dyson (Fred) of Urbana; and son Tony Marcott (Mary) of Dunlap; grandson Kevin Dyson of Urbana; granddaughter Sienna Wessel (Garth) of Olympia, Wash.; granddaughter Hannah Mueller (Scott) of Chicago; grandson Adam Marcott (Adrienne) of Peoria; grandson Andrew Marcott of Chicago; and great-granddaughter Elouise "Ella" Marcott (Adam and Adrienne) of Peoria. In addition, many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at Meadowbrook Community Church, 1902 S. Duncan Road, Champaign, IL 61822. The memorial service will start directly after the visitation at the church followed by burial in Grandview Memorial Gardens, which is at the intersection of Staley Road and U.S. 150, Champaign, IL 61822.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Carle Hospice in Champaign.
