Edward Brinegar Obituary

CHAMPAIGN - On Sunday, May 4, 2025, Edward Brineger, a devoted husband to Donna J. Brinegar, father of four children, grandfather to five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, passed away.

Ed was born June 12, 1941, in Somerset, Ky., to Austin T. and Christine Brinegar. He married Donna J. Ranslem and they raised four children, Pam (Steve) Straughan, Tammy Leigh, Mark and Jeff (Stefanie) Brinegar. They enjoyed watching these children raise their grandchildren, Jenna (Michael), Jerron (Lauryn), McCall (Matthew), Justin and Josie. An added joyful bonus is the five great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Asher, Aaron, Laurel and Anna.

Ed was raised with siblings, Mary (Hal) Shoup and Jim (Merrie) Brinegar and several cousins in the Lexington, Ky., area.

He graduated from Lafayette High School class of 1959. Ed served four years in the Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base with a focus on IT and programming. He continued working and studying in this field at University of Nebraska and several other local schools. He worked as a program analyst and IT supervisor for F&M Bank in Tulsa, Okla., culminating his career as a program analyst at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Ed enjoyed bird watching, hiking, being with his family and watching all the kids grow. He was a softball and soccer coach for many seasons. Ed was always ready with a piece of advice for how to improve skills in any sport!

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Savoy Methodist Church, 3002 W. Old Church Road, Champaign. A graveside gathering will be held Thursday, June 5, at 11 a.m. at Lexington Cemetery, 833 W. Main St., Lexington, Ky.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at Cunningham Children's Home cunninghamhome.org where Ed and Donna served.

I have many fond memories of working with Ed at bank of Illinois. One that sticks in my minds is he had signed up for a class at Parkland and I asked him why he doing that and he told me"I though maybe I would learn something"
