THOMASBORO - Justin "Chunk" E. Chaney, 44, of Thomasboro left this world entirely too young on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 5, 2023) at home.
He was born April 2, 1979, in Urbana, a son of Gayle and Gerry (Gilmore) Chaney.
He is survived by his father, Gayle Chaney of Rantoul; mother, Gerry Gardner of Rantoul; half brother, Chad Chaney of Decatur; and four stepsisters, Angie (Jim) Hannagan of Gifford, Jamie (Corey) Evans of Gifford, Tracy (Ben) Gernertz of Gifford and Crystal Forth of Champaign. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved shih tzu, Dakota.
Chunk was a graduate of Rantoul Township High School, where he played football and basketball. He worked construction and was a member of the Laborers Union Local 703 for over 20 years. He was employed at the University of Illinois for a number of years.
He was a die-hard Cardinals fan and an avid Illini fan.
Funeral services will be at 11 Saturday morning at Peace Lutheran Church, Thomasboro. The Rev. Michael Stoerger will officiate. He will be buried in Beckman Cemetery, Thomasboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 Friday evening at Lux memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove Ave., Rantoul.
