Karen Mathis Obituary

URBANA - Karen Ann Mathis (Seth), born on Jan. 17, 1944, in Urbana, passed away peacefully on Monday (Aug. 11, 2025) in Urbana. She was 81 years old.

Karen was a lifelong resident of Urbana, where she built a life rooted in dedication to her work and deep connections with her family. She began her career in housekeeping at Mercy Hospital in Urbana, where she worked for 16 years. Later, she continued her professional journey at Plastic Container Co., where she spent another decade before retiring.

Family was at the heart of Karen's life. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Selena Brinkerhoff, Julia (Robert) Jenkins and Mark Sinkler. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, John, Keelan, Keera, Aaron, Pamela, Bobby and Justin; and nine great-grandchildren. Karen is also survived by her older brother, Jack (Sharon) Logan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Logan; as well as her younger brother, Tom Logan.

In addition to her devotion to family and work, Karen loved crafts, puzzles, and most of all, she cherished playing games with family - moments filled with laughter and connection that will be fondly remembered by those who shared them with her.

A celebration honoring Karen's life was held on Aug. 15 in Urbana.
