ATWOOD – Marvel Lorianne Cordts, 90, of Atwood passed away at 3:19 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Lake Fork United Church of Christ, 1401 East County Road 300 North, Atwood, with the Rev. Conrad Heisner officiating. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood. Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East U.S. 36, Atwood, is handling the arrangements.
A reception for family and friends will be held at the Harris Agriculture Museum, 202 West Locust St., Atwood, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday following the funeral services.
Mrs. Cordts was born on Sept. 23, 1918, in Decatur, the daughter of Roy and Ethel James Harshbarger. She married Vernon R. Cordts on Sept. 25, 1940, in Conway, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1986.
Surviving are her children, Rosalind Bruce and husband Kenneth of Springfield, Fred Cordts and wife Barbara of Decatur, Thomas Cordts and wife Paula of Decatur, Julianne Shipton and husband Steven of Palatine; seven grandchildren, Colin Bruce, Devon Bruce, Sheri Cordts, Matthew Cordts, Valarie Cordts, Claire Shipton and Iain Shipton; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Marvel was a homemaker. She and her husband formerly owned and operated the Atwood Market. She was a member of the Lake Fork United Church of Christ and the James Reeder American Legion Auxiliary Post 770, Atwood. Marvel was a member of the 16 Hi Card Club and the Atwood Women's Club. She was a graduate of Atwood High School and Brown's Business College in Decatur.
Memorials are suggested to the Lake Fork United Church of Christ.
