Sidney – Paul E. Hooker, 89, of Sidney passed away at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Heartland Health Care, Champaign.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Freese Funeral Home, 202 W. Main, Sidney. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sidney. Military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hooker was born Oct. 29, 1919, in Broadlands, a son of Harley and Margaret Fitzgerald Hooker. He married Patricia Penrod on July 26, 1952, in Philo. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2001.
Surviving are his two sons, Dwight E. (Terri) Hooker of Mahomet and David L. Hooker of Sidney; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
He served in United States Army during World War II. He retired from Chanute Air Force Base as a bus driver after 27 years.
He enjoyed his vegetable garden and his grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Sidney Volunteer Fire Department.
