DEWEY - Paul S. Kohler, 84, of Dewey passed peacefully into his heavenly home on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, after a period of declining health.
"In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?" - John 14:2
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Savoy Place and to Paul's many caregivers for their kindness and dedication.
Paul was born on June 14, 1941, in Bloomington, to Walter and M. Charlotte Kohler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Samuel James Kohler. After graduating from University High School in Normal, Paul attended Illinois State University and Purdue University, studying education in mathematics and science. He taught chemistry and mathematics in Champaign Unit 4 schools (Centennial and Jefferson) from 1969 to 1994, and later continued his passion for learning through work in computer software and consulting. Paul served as pastor at the Champaign Church of the Brethren and was also a member of Windsor Road Christian Church.
His love of music was evident throughout his life, including many years of playing the organ and piano. Paul's interests and hobbies included, among many other things, music, computers, golf and gardening. He volunteered at Easter Seals Camp in Bloomington, helped with church building and planning and supported numerous charitable organizations.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Corinne Frank Kohler; children, Larissa Kohler Ekonoja, Michelle Kohler and Peter Kohler (Mollie Bateman); and grandchildren, Elliot, Leyla and Edwin Ekonoja and Emma Kohler.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m. at Windsor Road Christian Church, Champaign, with a time of remembrance and visiting to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Champaign Church of the Brethren, Heifer International or a charity of your choice.

Paul was our Ham Radio Club advisor. His mentoring led to many students getting there first Ham License or in my case moving up a class. Paul drove many of us up to Chicago to take our tests in the Federal Building. Many thanks to Paul, I am still a Ham, KA9BDJ going on 51 years. Cheers to your kindness and SK to WB9ZDO.
