URBANA – Paul Christian Lauterbur, 77, of Urbana died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at home.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lauterbur was born on May 6, 1929, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of Edward J. and Gertrude Wagner Lauterbur. He married M. Joan Dawson on July 3, 1984, in Stony Brook, N.Y. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Daniel J. (Joanne) Lauterbur of Perry, Mich.; two daughters, Sharyn L. (Michael) Di Geronimo of Long Island, N.Y., and Elise Lauterbur of Urbana; one sister, Margaret L. (Ken) McDonough of Coshocton, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley, Laura, Paul and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joseph Lauterbur.
Mr. Lauterbur was a professor at Stony Brook University and the University of Illinois and graduated from the Case Institute of Technology and the University of Pittsburgh.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
Mr. Lauterbur was a Nobel Laureate and a member of the American Physical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Society for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, National Academy of Sciences, International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
