URBANA - Rebecca Ziska, 99, of Urbana went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2023.
She was born on July 27, 1924, in Lancaster, S.C., the daughter of Ralph and Nannie Beckham.
Becky attended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning a master's degree in botany. During this period, she met her husband, Bill. Together they moved to Champaign to further his education at the University of Illinois.
Her love of animals and nature led Becky to financially support conservation causes. She also volunteered for many years working with David Monk for prairie restoration, something she had a great passion for. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Becky is survived by her daughters, Veronica (Champ) Walker and Bonita (Tim) Millikan; son, W. Byron Ziska; four grandchildren, Christopher (Annie) Walker, Eric Walker, Stephanie (Mike) Slade and Jacob Ziska; and two great-grandchildren, Ruthie Walker and Elijah Slade. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Hazel Kimrey; husband, G. William Ziska Jr.; and children, W. Anthony Ziska and Michelle Ziska.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made in her name to the Champaign County Humane Society.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, from noon to 1 p.m. with a service following at 1 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign. Becky will be interred in Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo.
