CHAMPAIGN - Ricky Gene Brainard, 60, of Champaign, passed away on Aug. 27, 2025, in Champaign.
There will be a celebration of life to be established at a later date.
Ricky was born in Champaign to Carl E. Brainard and Zenda Brainard (Davis) on Oct. 8, 1964. He was raised and went to school in Urbana. He worked as a manager for KFC in his younger years. He then worked as a cab driver for Yellow Cab. He also worked as a security guard for the Eldarado Casino in Reno, Nev. Lastly, he was a truck driver for U.S. Express until he was taken ill by cancer.
Ricky loved spending time with his family and friends. One of his favorite things to do was be in his semi on the open road, enjoying all that life had to offer.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Carl E. Brainard; mother, Zenda Brainard; brothers, Richard Brainard, Carl E. Roy and David Brainard; his sister, Sharon Perry; and his great-niece, Kyra Nicole Lee Root.
Ricky is survived by his brothers William L. Brainard, John Brainard and Gary Brainard; his daughter, Cynthia N. Burnett; his son, Mathew Leonard; extended family, Andrea Nunez; and many grandchildren.
The family of Ricky Brainard wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the team at Carle Foundation Hospital for doing everything they could to help with his battle against cancer and for Carle Hospice for helping make his last days more comfortable.
