Send FlowersURBANA - Steven D. Edwards, who was born on Nov. 10, 1963, in La Lima, Cortes, Honduras, peacefully passed away on Sept. 13, 2025, at the age of 61.
Steve was the cherished son of the late Dr. Dale and Carol Edwards of Urbana. A proud graduate of Urbana High School, Class of 1981, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Illinois at Champaign.
For more than four decades, Steve shared a loving marriage with his devoted wife, Brenda Edwards of Urbana. Throughout his career, he worked as a laboratory technician, first at Metal Gold in Champaign, and later at ImpactLife, where he dedicated over 20 years of service. His professional life reflected his commitment to precision, dedication, and care for others. Beyond his work, Steve's greatest joy came from his family. He was a proud father to Joshua (Melvina) Edwards and Elizabeth Edwards, and a deeply devoted grandfather to Haven, A'lonna, Makenna, and Ace. He is also survived by his siblings, Cheryl Wendt, Cathy (Bill) Barnett, and Alan Edwards. Steve was preceded in death by his beloved parents.
Those who knew Steve will remember his quick wit, sense of humor, and the lighthearted spirit he brought into every room. He had a passion for Star Wars, his Bigfoot collection, Syfy shows, the History Channel, and cheering on the Fighting Illini. He also found joy in the companionship of his beloved four-legged friend, Max, who was always by his side. Above all, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren, who were the center of his world. Steve's legacy will live on in the love he gave, the laughter he inspired, and the memories cherished by all who were blessed to know him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Webber Street Christian Church, 107 S. Webber St., Urbana. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, in Champaign, after the funeral. Food will be served at Webber Street Christian Church following the burial.
We are grateful for all the support we have received. Contributions toward Steve Edward's funeral fund are appreciated as we honor his final wishes. Donations may also be made to ImpactLife at www.bloodcenter.org/giving or by giving blood in Steve's honor at the local Urbana donation center.

My thoughts are with the family during your time of grief. I am so sorry for your loss. Steve was such a nice person. I will miss the joke emails he often sent me, and his commitment to the work he did.
