TOLONO - Steven L. Stumborg, 34, of Tolono died Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2025) as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic automobile accident.
Steven was born Dec. 7, 1990, in Urbana, to loving parents Gerald "Jerry" and Diane (Lange) Stumborg. He graduated from Unity High School and attended Eastern Illinois University. He was employed at a job he loved with Behr Paint Company.
Steven lived a full life surrounded by the people and passions that brought him joy. He was devoted to his family and friends, always cherishing time spent together. He was dedicated to physical fitness and staying active at the gym. He enjoyed relaxing on the water with a fishing pole in hand and sharing laughs over bourbon with those closest to him.
A collector at heart, he enjoyed curating his enormous shoe collection, keeping the Amazon driver busy with his numerous deliveries, and turning online gaming into a competitive sport. One of his greatest joys was spoiling his beloved cat, Sissy, who was his constant companion. His memory also lives on in the immense pride and love he carried for his nieces and nephews, who meant the world to him even though they teased him mercilessly.
He will be remembered for his quiet and gentle warmth, sense of humor and the way he made everyone feel welcome in his presence. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he gave so freely.
He is survived by his parents; sisters, Heather (Jake) Mathis, Taylor (Evan Ritzer) and Kaitlynn; aunts and uncles Marcia (the late Don) Kaiser, Karen (Andy) Rice, Mary Lange, Bobbi Stumborg, Linda (the late Joe) Reynolds, Tom Stumborg and Tony Spanglo; and too many cousins and dear friends to mention.
His memory lives on in his nieces and nephews, Addisyn, Jayden, Rylee, Blakely, Liam, Mason, Eli, Avery, Hannah and Holden.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marjorie and Harris (Hap) Lange and Sam and Jackie Stumborg; uncles Bud Lange, Gary Lange, Bill Stumborg and Robert Trost; aunt Sandra (the late Tom) Carpenter; and cousin Dennis Raup.
Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 6, from noon to 2 p.m. at Freese Funeral Home, Tolono, with the funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will immediately follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.
The family is grateful for the outpouring of support. For those wishing to contribute, donations can be made to Steven's memorial fund at gofund.me/d0bd5b2f8.

Steven was the Behr Rep when I worked at the Jacksonville, Illinois Home Depot. He was friendly, professional and always had a smile on his face. He will be missed by so many people. I am so thankful to have known him.
