Thomas Meyer Obituary

TUSCOLA - Thomas A. Meyer, 72, of Tuscola passed away at 1:56 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen St., Tuscola, with Father Barry Harmon officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at the Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main St., Tuscola. Private family interment will be held at a later date.

Tom was born on May 12, 1937, in Tuscola, the son of Everett W. and Florentine R. Cler Meyer.

Survivors include his children, Carmen Meyer and her husband Paul Jenks of Albuquerque, N.M., Alex Meyer and wife Beth of St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Aiden Meyer, Ava Meyer and Ofelia Jenks; and one brother, Wayne Meyer and wife Margaret of Tuscola.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Everett and Chuck Meyer; and a sister, Wanda Helm.

Tom was a retired farmer. He graduated from the University of Illinois. Tom served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He loved animals, fishing, model airplanes, farming, woodworking and being outdoors. Throughout his life he enjoyed sports, whether it was playing or organizing them.

Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross Haitian Crisis Fund.
