CHAMPAIGN - Walter Mikucki, 80, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at his home in Champaign.
Born in Cumberland, R.I., he was the son of the late John A. and Mary A. (Grejdus) Mikucki.
Walter graduated from the University of Rhode Island with bachelor's and master's of science degrees in 1964 and 1968. He served in the U.S. Army, and then as an environmental engineer in the Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1999.
Walter was a founding member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Champaign and sang in the choir there for more than 40 years.
Walter is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Hucal) Mikucki of Champaign; and his younger brother, Ronald Mikucki of Danbury, Conn. His late older sister, Eleanore Mikucki, resided in Cumberland, R.I.
Walter and Dottie have three children, William and Diedra of Cumberland, R.I., Chris Mikucki and Dr. Kristine Bolin of Carmel, Ind., and Beth Ann and Matt McNamara of Chelmsford, Mass. He has four wonderful grandchildren, John, Matthew, and Megan Mikucki of Carmel, Ind., and Brooks McNamara of Chelmsford, Mass.
His funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire Drive, Champaign. Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Walter will be buried in Mt. Calvary cemetary in Cumberland, R.I.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Matthew Catholic School in Champaign or the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, 2405 N. Shore Drive, Urbana, IL 61802 would be greatly appreciated.
