Brian Wenzel Obituary

Brian Wenzel, age 63, of Claridon, passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2014.
He was born in 1950 in Cleveland.
He is survived by his loving wife and soul-mate Lila Fisher-Wenzel; his children, who he loved unconditionally with every ounce of his being, Nate (Liz Hamak) of Lyndhurst, Stephanie (Dan) Braford of Chardon, Rachel (Chris Istenes) of Garfield Heights, Lindy Grasser of Rocky River, and Robert Grasser of North Royalton; his sister-in-law Carol Wenzel; and niece Joelle Wenzel-Good.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Arline (nee Froelich) Wenzel; and his beloved brother, David, of Beaufort, S.C.
Brian was a talented machinist for Creative Mold & Machine, and a former member of the Chardon Fire Department. He was a SARTECH II and K9 handler and was a member of Big Creek Search Dog Team and American Mantrailing, Police & Work Dog Association. He also loved photography and frequently assisted Lila, a professional photographer, with weddings and events.
Brian had a light within him and touched all he met. He was known to strike up conversations with just about anyone, and was quick to make friends. He was trusted, respected and loved by many, even those he knew for only a short time.
He knew that changing the world starts at home, and raised his children in his image. He taught them empathy, respect, and the value of an honest day's work. He told Lila how much he loved her every single day, living as if each day was his last. He was quick to cry at movies or a touching story, yet tough when the chips were down; with poise and grace, he often took control of situations that would break most people. He handled everything in his life with strength and compassion, truly a rare gift to the world. He will be sorely missed.
The family will host a celebration of life on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 4 to 9:00 p.m. at Eldon Russell Park, 16315 Rapids Road, Troy, Ohio. There will be appetizers and drinks, but please feel free to bring your favorite dish or beverages to share. Alcohol is permitted; please dress casually and bring your stories about Brian or a corny joke.
Donations are suggested to Ohio Great Dane Rescue, PO Box 123, Waterville, Ohio 43566.
