Not sure what to say?

I have had a great deal of trouble writing to you. I think it has something to do with acknowledging the fact that he is gone. In other words, I am in denial.

John "Jerry" Armbruster - What can I say about the man? I loved him. He was a great friend and mentor to me. Never a mean spirit.

Fran and I talked on several occasions about how I thought the song, My Way, sung by Frank Sinatra was written with John in mind. I have never known anyone who even came close to him in terms of doing what they wanted to do. That applied to his work, education, and family. He lived life on his terms until he couldn´t. One might think that this made him selfish, but it did not. He was extremely giving of his time and talents to the people at TRW. He was a mentor to many.

Family meant everything to him. As hard as it was for me to understand, he confided in me that he actually wanted more children. Poor Fran! Whenever we spoke after his retirement, he would always talk about one child or grandchild in glowing terms. We would spend more than half of our time together on those subjects. I never detected any bias of one over another.

I can assure you that John made significant contributions to TRW. He designed and implemented the general management systems that guided the company for 15 years. These systems integrated the goals, actions and rewards for each of the company´s divisions. He helped the company to prosper and provide employment for 80,000 people. I am confident that without these systems the company would not have done as well as it did. You should be very proud.

Dear Fran, Janet, Mary Kay, Rusty, Richard, Chris & David, we just want to say how much our hearts are broken for you and with you. Your dad was one of a kind. Respected by co-workers, friends and extended family and people of faith, he was an example of kindness, good humor and generosity beyond measure. We watched him father you kids, now all grown with families of your own, successful and "giving" in each your own way. You learned from the master. We are confident a place in the Kingdom holds him in good grace; until we all meet again.
