Funeral Mass for Mary Helen (née Balazs) Whitely, 83, of Mentor will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Fr. Marty Dober will officiate. Mary passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Promedica of Twinsburg. She was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Cleveland. Mary was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and Perpetual Adoration, helped with the retreats at the church and church festival. She also enjoyed sewing, making pillows for all of her grandkids and doing crafts. She was the loving mother of Daniel J. (Kathy) Whitely, Timothy M. (Julie) Whitely, Michael J. (Roberta) Whitely and Ann T. (Dan) Brinkmann; cherished grandmother of 17; sister-in-law of Mary Jane Balazs; and aunt of nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James W. Whitely in 2010; parents, Andrew and Mary (née Popp) Balazs; and siblings, Andrew Balazs, Steven (Phyllis, dec.) Balazs, Julius Balazs, and John (Mona, dec.) Balazs. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, and from 8:45 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass at church.
