Robert Reichard Obituary

Funeral services for Robert W. Reichard, 88, of Willoughby, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011, at The First Christian Church of Willoughby, 4249 River St., Willoughby.
Mr. Reichard passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 10, 1923, in Jewitt, a son of Warren J. and Lida (McLaughlin) Reichard, he and his wife raised their family in Euclid, and then lived in Mentor for many years before moving to Breckenridge Village in Willoughby.
Mr. Reichard fully enjoyed his life at Breckenridge Village, where he participated in and led various programs. He was active member of The First Christian Church of Willoughby and the Willoughby (Browning) Senior Center. He maintained an enthusiasm for life by exercising both his body and his mind. He rode his recumbent cycle until a week before his death.
He loved to tell stories drawn from his vast knowledge of history and of the Bible, as well as from his own life. He was well-loved by his family and friends for whom he always had a warm greeting and hearty hug.
Mr. Reichard worked most of his professional career as a production executive at the Leece Neville Company in Cleveland. For 10 years, he taught managerial courses at the Cuyahoga Community College. In 1975, he became a certified Lay Minister and served several churches in Lake County as interim minister.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Jeffrey (Diane) Reichard of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Karen (Larry) Lapidus of Poland, Ohio; granddaughters, Jody (James) Mierzejewski of North Ridgeville and Ann (William Bobbitt) Lapidus of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hannah, Kyla and Ashlyn Mierzejewski; and several nieces, a nephew, and many, many friends.
His beloved wife of 57 years, Betty J. (Sallach) Reichard, passed away Oct. 30, 2002. His sisters, Gaynelle Stewart, Roeine Rowland, Genevra Reichard, Elizabeth Rogers and Marjorie Baldwin; and brother, Howard Reichard, are also deceased.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby. The Rev. Richard D. Norton of the First Christian Church of Willoughby will officiate at the service. Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Reichard had requested that contributions be made to the Salvation Army of Lake County, 69 Pearl St., Painesville, OH 44077.

Dear Uncle Bob,
Distance kept us from staying in close touch over the years, but you have always held a special place in my heart. I cherished your yearly Christmas card and kind words, and enjoyed talking to you on the telephone around the holidays. Thank you for setting a good and loving example by living the Christian life. I will see you again some day.
Your niece,
Lida Lou (Rowland) Stansbery

It was, indeed, my pleasure to have known Bob & Betty for many, many years - his knowledge of the Bible and his ability to impart that knowledge will long be remembered by all of his brothers and sisters-in-Christ at First Christian. He will be missed by all who were fortunate to call him "friend". My deepest sympathy to Bob's Family. Joyce Dirrman, First Christian Church, Willoughby, OH

Bob will certainly be missed. He had a devotional love in music. Bob and I shared many hours together in music at the Community Christian Church in Painesville Twp. where I served as organist and music director, there with his help the church was able to purchase an Allen Digital organ, form an adult choir, children's choir & children & youth handbell choir. Bob sure loved the children and youth,as he would say "they are the future of the church." Bob, may your new life be filled with peace and joy as you are with the Lord - and we for sure know that you are now sharing in the most glorious music in Heaven.

With much love from your friends,
Jerry Marshall, organist & music director and all of those at the Community Christian Church

Bob was a good friend - to me and to so many people. I knew Bob and Betty first through my son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren and I see him in my mind in his Santa Claus outfit, visiting their home.

I was saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I sang with him, for many
years, in the Wildwood Singers. He was a terrific person, and had a
wonderful voice. He will be missed.
