Wilbur Moyer Obituary

He was a man who not only made others feel good but he was "good at heart" - always giving of himself to help others.
Wilbur "Wimp" Moyer of Estero, FL, formerly of Mentor Ohio passed away February 7, 2016. He was born September 12, 1933 in Somerset, PA.
His professional life was in Lake County, where he was Vice President/District Manager for J.P. Morgan Chase Bank - formerly Bank One Cleveland and Lake County National Bank. He retired in 1991 and started a new career as Vice President Human Resources for STERIS Corporation to 1996. His teaching experience in the 1960s was at Perkins High School, Mentor High School and as Adjunct Accounting Professor at Lakeland Community College. He served in the U.S. Army for two years.
Known for his community service, Wimp strove to improve the lives of others. He was president of the Painesville Chamber of Commerce, St. Martins Society and United Way. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Lakeland Community College and served 16 years as treasurer for the Mentor Rotary Club. Wimp was Founding member and Chairman of Lake Educational Assistance Foundation (LEAF), Chairman of Learning About Business (LAB) and a Board member of the Lake County YMCA. He actively raised funds for worthy causes: the Ridgecliff Foundation, Crippled Children and Adults, the Mentor High School Conditioning Center and Lake Erie College. He was a 3rd degree Mason and a member of the Painesville GYRO Club.
Special recognition was given to Mr. Moyer as "YMCA Layman of the Year", Painesville "Citizen of the Year", Mentor "Citizen of the Year", United Way "Good Neighbor" award, first Leadership Lake County "Leadership" award and "Distinguished Citizen" Award Mentor Chamber of Commerce.
After moving to Estero, Florida in 1998 he continued to be involved serving on the first Master Board as treasurer at the Villages of Country Creek and founding the "Care Bears" group for the community. He was treasurer of the Wii bowling league, president of the Country Creek Mens Golfing Association, and a member of the board of Country Creek Charities, Inc.
He was a graduate of Somerset High School, Bowling Green State University, attended Indiana State Teachers College, Kent State University and Rutgers Graduate School of Banking.
He is survived by four brothers and three sisters, his wife Mary Ann Moyer, four children and four step children, 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Memorial gifts can be made to Lake Educational Foundation (LEAF), Lakeland Community College Foundation, or your charity of choice.

To the family of "Mr. Moyer". He was my bookkeeping teacher at Mentor High and later college professor at LCC. He kept the counselors from making me drop his accounting courses which led to my profession, so I have always been grateful. He was one of my favorite teachers. I am truly sorry for your loss Fran Jarc Riehl, 1965 MHS grad.

Mary Ann,

Carol and I were out of town and just heard. What a great loss. Wimp was such a caring person and a mentor to me. Words cannot capture our sadness but we know that Wimp was such a positive person and would want to be remembered as such. His memory will live with us always.

I lived next door(15+yrs)to the Moyer family on Roosevelt Drive in Painesville,Ohio. Many fond memories of Mr. Moyer growing up and always willing to give a life lesson along the way. He shared his passion for golf with me at a young age giving multiple lessons & was even thoughtful enough to help me get my first job at Steris Corp. Not surprisingly, I learned years later he was responsible for hiring my mother at Bank One. He was someone you respected because he was always looking out for others, when he didn't have to. I think Wimp truly enjoyed helping others and he was in a position to do so, & did without hesitation. That's what made him so unforgettable! I was fortunate to see him one last time this past summer and glad we had a chance to talk. Nothing changed, he was still the same Mr. Moyer I'll always remember fondly. Save us a tee time in Heaven!

To the Moyer Family
I had Mr. Moyer as a teacher in 9th grade at Mentor High School. He was one of those great teachers that your never forget and, sadly, didn't fully appreciate until after you were out of school. He was a good man! My most sincere condolences to the family.

We've lost a great man, one who always thought of others before himself. He was father who instilled strong morals and values in us as children, and continued throughout our lives. He was always good for the sarcastic comment, that always brought a smile to my face. I'm proud to be his son, and miss him dearly.
