Ann Tate Obituary

Ann Ruth (Carter) Tate was born on March 4, 1918 in Honey Grove, Texas to Berford Carter and Willie Ann Barns. She moved to Memphis at age 5 and to Daytona Beach in 1952. She married John D. Tate in 1946. Ann is preceded in death by loving husband of 47 years, John D. Tate. Also preceded in death by her son, John R. Tate, sisters Lucille Grimes, Joy Rodger, Dolly Warren and brother Tommie Carter. She is survived by her sister Edna Baker of Memphis, Tennessee, son Lee Tate of Omaha, Nebraska, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her dearest friend Phyllis Falany who took such great care of her and many close friends who held a special place in her heart. Ann was an Honorary and Life Member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, a National and Master Flower Show Judge, Member of the South Peninsula Garden Club, Honorary State Member, Honorary Life Member of the Creative Floral Arrangers of the Americas #2 (CFAA), Honorary Life Member District 6 Council of Judges and Garden Club, Life Member of Palmetto Club and Member of the United Methodist Church. She held many offices in several clubs including Chairman. She also received several awards over her lifetime including Floral Design, State Corsage Award, State Delegate Award, Miniature Award and many top Flower Show Awards. On several occasions her flower arrangement was honored in the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs annual calendar. She was inducted into the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs Hall of Fame and is a Pillow of Pride recipient. She cherished all of her awards but the one she held closest to her heart was the District VI Judge Council Award given each year in Honor of Ann Tate. This award goes to the member with the most innovative design in the entire Design Division. She also received a Proclamation in honor of her 97th birthday from the Mayor of Daytona Beach. Twice she was nominated for Halifax Woman of the Year. Ann will have a graveside service and be interred next to her late husband on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Memphis, TN. Friends wishing to call and pay their respects may do so Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Condolences for the family may be shared at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com.

Ann was a dear friend to my mother for many years Shirley Simmons who helped care for her but were more like family! I know my mother will miss her and always cherish there friendship! Very sweet lady!
