Barbara Langdon Obituary

Barbara Alice Maxwell Langdon passed away suddenly on November 9th, 2016 in Daytona Beach, Florida, surrounded by family. She was 75. Barbara was a Devoted Wife and Life Partner of 60 years to Raymond L. Langdon; Barbara and Ray were high school sweethearts and married April 26th, 1958. Beloved Mother to Thomas R. Langdon (deceased), James A. Langdon (deceased), Lawrence W. Langdon and Diane Langdon Swirka. Mother-in-Law to Renée Kingsley Langdon and Timothy A. Swirka. Grandmother to Taylor Nicole Langdon, Ryan Patrick Langdon and Darian Samantha Skye Swirka. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1941 and raised in Oceanside, New York; as a teenager, she worked for the family business, Maxwell's Deli, on Long Beach Road; she graduated Oceanside Senior High School and continued to live there to raise her own family with Ray. Barbara's devotion for helping people led her down a humanitarian path – she worked for The Stephanie Joyce Kahn Foundation (the frontrunner of pre-recorded books for the blind and bedridden), The American Red Cross, Volusia County's Human Services – Head Start Division and the Volusia County Public Library system. Barbara enjoyed boating, swimming, bicycling, cruising; she relished her country home in upstate New York; Barbara made entertaining family and friends an art form, celebrating any occasion with elegance or whimsy – whatever the event called for; she looked forward to spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved convertible cars, Bike Week, Irish music and partying with that Irish music playing loudly. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 at The Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach, Florida (105 South Riverside Drive and Canal Street). Floral arrangements may be sent to The Brannon Center on that day between 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Family members will be receiving guests from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

I am so sorry for your loss. A light went out the day Barbara left us. I shared an office with her in New Smyrna Beach when she worked for Headstart. She was a caring person who was excellent in her work, but she had a fun side too. I loved her laugh. May you fly with the angels, Barbara!
