Carol, aged 63, passed away after a long illness. Born in Philadelphia, she spent most of her youth in Warminster, Pa. and later moved to the Daytona Beach area. A 1972 graduate of William Tennant Senior High School, she got her Licensed Practical Nursing license through the Montgomery County Community College and her Registered Nursing degree from Daytona State College.
Focused on becoming a nurse from a young age, Carol put in over 2000 hours as a Candy Striper at a local Bucks County nursing home during her early teens. With a spirit of volunteerism, Carol set her sights on volunteering on the Warminster Ambulance Corps and Fire Company. At 16, she became a radio operator for the ambulance corps and as soon as allowed, she road ambulance on many medical emergency calls. In 1971, she became one of the first women to serve as a firefighter with the volunteer Warminster Fire Company. Later, she volunteered with the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad. She was a long time Girls Scout and Troop Leader. Carol spent her life nursing others. She worked at St Mary's Hospital, Warminster General, Halifax Health, Bert Fish and others. She loved the act of caring for others both on the job and in her personal life. Carol met and married her first husband Larry Fisher in 1987. She was unexpectedly widowed in 1999. Carol was lucky to have found a second love in life and married Dennis Poss July 4th 2002. Dennis and Carol enjoyed their life together and liked traveling to the Caribbean on cruises. As Carol's health declined in recent years, she was no longer able to enjoy nursing or traveling any longer. Always one to keep in touch with friends and family via her telephone, she became very adept at texting. Keeping in touch and caring in her way was very important to who she was.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Richard Rambo, her brother Dale Rambo and her first husband Larry Fisher. She is survived by her current husband Dennis Poss, sister Penny Haedrich (Chuck), step daughter Milisa Fisher, son Michael Gruben, nephew Shaun Haedrich, niece Devon Haedrich, grandniece Skyler Haedrich and many relatives, friends and former co-workers. Carol is at rest and we all must go on. A memorial service will be held at Baldwin Brothers – Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange on Saturday, June 23rd at 2pm.
