Dr. Charles Carroll

Port Orange - Charles Carroll, 71, of Port Orange, Florida passed away on February 9, 2021 after a long battle with aplastic anemia and LGL leukemia. Charles was a kind, compassionate, and loving person with endless wisdom. He was born in the Atlanta, Georgia area in 1949 and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Georgia State University and Nova Southeastern University, where he earned a doctorate degree in higher education and ethics. Charles worked in Atlanta, GA and Galveston, TX area hospitals before moving to Daytona Beach to teach respiratory therapy at Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC). At DBCC he progressed through the administrative ranks, retiring as Senior Vice President of Planning, Development, and Institutional Effectiveness. In his latter position, he played an instrumental role in changing DBCC to a four-year institution - Daytona State College. He also authored DBCC's anniversary book Daytona Beach Community College - Fifty Years of Serving the Community, in addition to several textbooks and novels. In addition, Charles worked extensively as an educational consultant. Clients included governments of the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. He also worked with colleges in Washington, D.C., Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and North Carolina. Upon his retirement from Daytona State College, he pursued a second career as a writer and hypnotherapist helping individuals pursue their dreams and personal potential. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Leigh Brannon Carroll, their daughter, Courtney Carroll Spilker (Todd Spilker) of Cooper City, Florida, daughter, Donna Carroll of LaGrange, Georgia, daughter Pamela Blackmon of Lithonia, Georgia and granddaughter Zoey Spilker, of Cooper City, Florida. Services for Charles are private at this time and at the discretion of his family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a social justice organization of your choice is appreciated. I had the honor of knowing Dr. Carroll since 1980. The last time I spoke with him; some years ago--I was delighted to find him in good spirits and, the same great person he was in his early years at D.B.C.C. There's a special place in heaven for people of his character and caliber.

Dr. Carroll was a soft spoken man with vision and great wisdom. It was a pleasure working with him in any capacity and he will be truly missed. Praying for God's peace and the presence of his precious Holy Spirit to comfort the family.
