Corinne Dunn was reared in DeLand, Florida where she was the only child of Robert and Leona Williams. She graduated from Bronson High School and married James C. Dunn, Sr. in 1938. To this union six sons were born; James C. Dunn Jr., Dr. Marvin Dunn, Vernon Dunn, William Dunn, Dr. Raymond Dunn and Robert LeVon Dunn. Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her infant son Vernon and in 2001, her loving husband, James C. Dunn, Sr. Mrs. Dunn joined Hart Temple Church of God in Christ in 1947 under Elder Lewis Hart in DeLand, Florida. The family moved to Miami in 1950 where she joined Eason Temple under Elder E. O. Eason. In 1963 she became a founding member of Crooms Temple Church of God in Christ in Miami under the leadership of Doctor Oliver J. Crooms. During her long tenure as a member of this church, Mrs. Dunn held many positions of leadership including: Church Secretary, President of Young Women's Christian Council, Missionary President, Secretary of the Mother's Board, Assistant to the District Missionary and Secretary to the Pentecostal District. Mrs. Dunn was a community leader and activist in Miami-Dade County for over forty years. Her extensive involvement began as an involved parent in the Dade County Public School System. Later she was a foudning member of the North Dade Improvement Association which was successful in bringing many needed programs and services to the North Dade area. In 1970, Mrs. Dunn became a member of the Board of Directors of Dade County's Community Action Agency. In 1971 she was placed on the Board of Directors Legal Services of Dade County. Mrs. Dunn served as a volunteer health aide to senior citizens and also became chairperson of the Dade County National Parent Federation for Day Care and Child Development, Inc. In her recognition of her work and dedication, on June 10, 1995 the Dade County Commission honored her by re-naming a section of N. W. 151st Street in Opa Locka Corinne Dunn Way. Her life will be celebrated 11am Monday at the Calvary Temple of Praise, 2020 McCracken Road, Sanford with Pastor Maurice Bennett of Grace Aposotlic Temple, officiating. Visitation with the family receiving friends will be held today (Sunday) from 6pm to 9pm at Cusack Mortuary. Burial will follow the services at Union Cemetery, DeLand.
