Elsie Iozzino Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Elsie I. Iozzino, 75, Ormond Beach, who died Friday, June 3, 2005, in Ormond Beach, will be 11 a.m. Wed., June 8, at Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Ormond Beach, with the Rev. Tim Daly as celebrant. Calling hours are today (Tuesday) from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Elsie was born Aug. 30, 1929, in Springfield, Mass., to Kenneth and Elsie (Roe) Ramsey. She moved to this area in 1962 from Syracuse, N.Y. She was owner of Nova Family Campground from 1970 until her retirement in 1985 and a hospital volunteer at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial from 1967 until her death. Elsie was one of the original Auxilians present when Memorial Hospital opened in 1967. She served in many capacities, including Clerical Service chairman, 1967; Nominating Committee chairman, 1968; co-chairman of May Festival and its general treasurer, 1980; for many years she spent hours at home editing and typing the Auxilian Handbook; editor from April 1982 to December 1986 of the Auxiliary newsletter, "Hot Pink Line;" chairman of the Auxiliary Service where she volunteered from 1989-1997 working with administration and medical staff services; Membership co-chairman for many years; Bylaws Committee member; and working with the Risk Management/Patient Relations Department, her last auxiliary service. Until two weeks ago she worked one day every week as a data transcriptionist, and took part in hospital events, fund-raisers and projects. Her Risk Management/Patient Relations "family" says, "Elsie always expressed great pride and joy in her family and loved to talk about the antics of her German shepherd, Abby. Elsie was a great model of high spirit and tenacity. She never said a harsh thing about anyone, and was always ready to laugh." The staff marveled that she was always "a real lady." Elsie was a member of St. Brendan Roman Catholic Church, Ormond Beach. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, traveling, shopping and volunteering her time helping others at the hospital. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Eugene E.; sons, Steven and his wife, Nelda, Lutz, and Eugene and his wife, Marianne, Easley, S.C.; daughters, Catherine Walsh and her husband, Bill, and Susan Romer and her husband, Gerry, all of Ormond Beach; grandchildren, Ashley, Philip, Adam, Brian, David, Thomas, Byron, Michael, Matthew, Regina, Geno, Alysha and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Kent and Kayla; and her loving dog, Abby. Remembrances requested to Memorial Health Systems Foundation Inc., 770 W. Granada Blvd., Ste. 102, Ormond Beach, FL 32174, or Father Lopez High School. Dear Gene and family,

I was sorry to hear that Elsie passed on. She was such a sweet person and fought a valiant battle. I will never forget our visits, Larry's subs while the IV's were infusing and the memories of Schenectady. Each time I visit my sister and pass the church where you were married, I think of you.

Dr. Gene, you did a wonderful job in caring for her. Your meticulous record keeping and attention to details prolonged her life - I am sure.

I know you will all miss her, but remember that she was special and really loved her family. You are a close family and will support each other through this.

Give Abby an extra pat and a treat. She gave Elsie a lot of laughs.

My prayers are with you all.

Love, Mary Ellen

I want to thank the entire family for allowing me to care for Elsie her last day. The love and compassion I felt towards your wife, mother and grandmother were inspiring and always brought a tear to my eye as I left the room. I will never forget the love that was so freely displayed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
