One of my lifelong all time favorite comrades in music. The times we had are some of my best memories. I'll miss seeing you across the street at the dog park almost daily, but will always remember you as one of the finest human beings I have ever known.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to your wife and children as well as the incredible extended Payne family. God Bless.

So sorry to hear about my buddy "Mean Gene". I also met Gene at the NSB Dog Park where we spent years together on our daily visits. I always looked forward to seeing him and the band playing around town and had many great nights of fun. I'll miss you bro.

I met Gene (and Taylor) a few years ago at the dog park. He'd pull up in the red Bronco with Marley, Sammy and Patches chomping at the bit to get out & play. Gene was very good to his dogs, he always talked fondly of his family and of his job delivering the kids to school and back home again. He always had a smile when he talked about driving the school bus. Nice guy, so glad I had the pleasure to meet him. Caring thoughts to all that are missing him now.

I can always remember sitting next to Gene while he was on break from the band and in a matter of a few seconds we both be laughing. That was the kind of person he was. God Bless you Gene.
