Jesse Shropshire Obituary

A funeral service for Jesse Shropshire, 76, of Palm Coast, who passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at his home, will be 10:30 AM on Monday, September 29, at the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach. Interment will follow at Volusia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm on Sunday, September 28, at the funeral home. He was born on July 26, 1932 in Astoria, NY to the late Jesse and Carmela Shropshire (Perno). He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon retiring from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook , NY, he and his wife moved to the Palm Coast area in 2002 from Miller Place, NY. Mr. Shropshire enjoyed bowling, being on the computer, playing the guitar and being the "jokester" with his family and friends. Memberships included the Elks Club of Palm Coast and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kay. Additional survivors include his sisters, Joyce Edgar of St. James, NY; Jeri Kowalik of Smithtown, NY; brother,Kenneth Shropshire of Miller Place, NY; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held in Long Island, NY at a later date. Donations in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1737 N. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite #140, Daytona Beach, FL 32117 or American Lung Association, 412 S. Palmetto Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. David and I are so sorry for your loss and wish we could be there to give you hugs. I never got the chance to meet Jesse, but I have heard great stories about him and I know he will be missed by many.
