John Arthur Willits was born June 4, 1958 in Daytona Beach at Halifax Hospital. He was the son of former Daytona Beach Police Chief Charles Willits and his wife Peggy. John was a 1976 graduate of Spruce Creek High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy stationed at the Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville. He attended Daytona Beach Community College, and was a licensed Respiratory Therapist having worked at Halifax Medical Center. John enjoyed wood working, constructing kitchen cabinetry, and had a long time interest in Yoshukai Karate. He was a caring man with an active sense of humor most like his father's. Among his happiest moments were the births of his children. He is survived by his wife Sandy, son John Arthur Jr., daughter Madison Glynn, step-daughter Haley, brothers Jim, Charles, Jay, sister Susan Thomas, and ten nephews and nieces. I can't put into words what John meant to me. He was one of my dearest and closest friends for as long as I can remember. I felt I could share anything with him and usually did as he was a great listener. As long as I draw breath, I will always cherish all the great times we spent together. I feel like a little part of me died Friday. He was like the brother I never had. RIP Juanza. You will always be in my thoughts.

I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. Sandy, I am so sorry. I worked with John and he was a good Therapist. I used to call him the "vent whisperer" because if I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my vent, he could. He was funny and I know he loved you Sandy. I remember when you two would eat together in our break room and I must confess..I watched you out of the corner of my eye, He practically hand fed you, he was so in love. His whole face would light up when he talked about his kids. I will miss him.

John was a great friend and spent many a day and eve with me and my family. The cookouts, bond fires and just sitting around having great laughs. My daughters always called him Uncle Juan, they adored him as he did them. Although we have not been in touch in the past few years, he was always thought about a lot. Especially when going through photo albums and seeing those pictures of his fun smile holding my girls or them sitting on his lap. His heart was huge and very kind. You will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. My God comfort you during this sad time. Love you Juan! R.I.P.
