LOUISE KARGES Obituary

Following a steady decline in her health after suffering a stroke in April of this year, Louise Price Karges has peacefully departed this life on August 25, 2010, to reside in Heaven with her pre-deceased husband of 58 years (Arthur), her four younger brothers, (Harold, Sterling, William and Donald; her parents, Elmer R. and Hattie B. Price). Louise is survived by her only child, Dr. Michael Karges and wife Judy, Daytona Beach; her two grandsons, Kevin (a medivac helicopter dispatcher with ORMC, Orlando), and Dr. Steve, a pediatrician in St. Petersburg; and her four great-grandchildren belonging to Steve and wife Ivey (Tyler 11), Ellie (8), Spencer (5), and Phoebe (2). Louise was born on July 19, 1922 in Henderson, Kentucky, where she grew up, married and raised her son until 1958 at which time the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky. While in Louisville, Louise served as organist for the Lyndon Baptist Church as she had done for the 1st Baptist Church in Henderson. She also began a career in banking, starting as a secretary and progressing to the level of personnel officer for the Citizens Fidelity Bank (now a part of PNC Bank). While living in Louisville, Louise became the President of the Louisville Chapter of the National Association of Bank Women and a charter member of the River City Business and Professional Women. She attended both Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville. In 1987 Louise and Arthur both retired and moved to Summer Trees in Port Orange to be closer to their son and his family. Upon establishing residence in Port Orange, Louise became a very active member of the Port Orange Presbyterian Church. Following Arthur's death in October, 2000, Louise sold their home and moved to Bishop's Glen Retirement Community where she gradually progressed from Independent Living to increasing levels of care in the Abbey and finally the extended concentrated care unit. Soon after her release from Halifax Hospital following her stroke, Louise was moved to the elder care residence of Lisa and Brandon Parrish in Port Orange where she spent her final days. Louise received excellent care and companionship while residing with Lisa and Brandon and her family and her family is grateful for the time she spent with them. As per her wishes, Louise is to be cremated and placed beside her husband Arthur at the Port Orange Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. A memorial service will be held at Port Orange Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 4 at 11 AM, with Rev. Dr. Calvin Gittner, Pastor, officiating. The family requests donations to the Port Orange Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 4662 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL 32129. Arrangements are under the direction of Shannon Maloney Funeral Home, Port Orange.
