How to put the passing of a "good guy"into a few words?Brother firefighter Man. Bx. and Bklyn. ( 60s thru late 70s). My stopping off for "just one", many times. We enjoyed his pleasant company at family and F.D. gatherings.Distance didn't change his warmth, even in phone calls.Rest in peace, dear sole. Terry and Al Saunders L. I, N. Y.

Hello, My name is Jack Flanagan and I was privliged to know and share a rare time in our lives together.
I first met Phil on a hot night in the Suth Bronx , the late 1960,s. We were spending our first night in a newly formed fire house. The never before seen tremendous increse in fires , necessitated forming a new company called Engine 41-2.
This company would be in the ten most busiest companies in NY city for our entire time working there. In 2011 all of the men working the day shift , would die. when they were called to the World Trade Center.
But , the night Phil and I met , I was the acting officer and Phil was my driver. thin ten minutes after meeting we had our first alarm and as we rushed out of the fire house , Phil brought the fire engine to an abrupt stop , I yelled " What are you stoping for?"
He responded " Because I juts realized , I don,t know where to go!"
Phil had just been transferred from Manhattan , and I asd sumed he being the driver knew where the fire was.
We would go on that knight to respond to 15 fires before Midnight!
Later that month he and I ran against each other for company delegate, a elected position, voted on only by company members.
Out of 25 members I got three votes ( one of which was mine ) and Phil 22!!!
He was one of the most consistantly pleasant guys to be with ,in what the Fire Department called the War Years , the busiest time in New York Citys history.
He has been reffered to as one of " The Good Guys" this is a high compliment from a close group of South Bronx fire fighters.
