ROBERT GREER Obituary

Robert E. Greer, 73, a long-time resident of DeLand, FL, passed away on February 11, 2010 after a long illness. He was born in Bay City, MI, on December 22, 1936. As a young man, he proudly served our Country in the U.S. Navy. After returning from the service, he started his own electrical contracting business, Greer's ALR Service. In 1957, he married his wife LaVonne, to whom he was married 52 years. Their marriage is a true inspiration to their children. In 1996 he retired due to his illness; he was known as a true "workaholic!" In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his brother and son's either fishing or hunting. Robert was a member of a rare breed… quiet and reserved with a wonderful sense of humor and "unique" personality. He was always willing to help others, even strangers on the street. He believed in listening more than speaking and instilled that in his children. Robert lived for his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife LaVonne; daughter Debbi (Barry) Walker of Ft. Wayne, IN; Kevin (Darlene) Greer of Palm Coast, FL, Jim Greer of Kissimmee, FL, Darren (Mary) Greer of Daytona Beach, FL, Eric (Marcy) Greer of DeLand, FL; brothers, Doug (Sue) Greer of DeLand, FL, Reg (Nancy) Greer of Pendleton, IN; sisters Corrine (Dr. C. Kelly) Parke of Easley, SC, Diane (Wendell) Hickman of Greer, SC; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held today (Sunday, February 14, 2010) at 2:00 at Life Point Community Church, 1747 New York Avenue, DeLand, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made in his name to Hospice of Volusia Flagler, 1625 Veteran's Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL 32763. Condolences are welcome and may be shared with the family online at www.lohmanfuneral homes.com.
