Sebastian Mangano Obituary

Sebastian "Seb" Anthony Mangano passed away peacefully after a life of adventure, inspiration and love. Seb always kept family, community and his faith as the compass to his life, which took him across the globe throughout his career and personal life. His service to his fellow man began at a young age. At 17, he volunteered in the National Guard in New York City where he happened to be on duty on VJ Day and always laughed at the fact that he was responsible for bringing in all the celebrators who got out of hand. A task he said wasn't really possible. The son of Antonio and Nunziata, he was the first in his family to get a university degree. He attended City College of New York where he was a varsity wrestler. Upon graduating, he quickly seized the opportunities life had to offer and started an international career at Esso, which lasted over 40 years, taking him around the world and moving the family to Venezuela, El Salvador, Honduras, Puerto Rico and Miami. In Miami, he was active at St. Louis Catholic Church, the Daily Bread Community Food Bank and Mother Teresa's charities. Sebastian retired to Central Florida in 1994 where he quicky developed roots and close friends in the community where he was an active member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Sebastian was luckiest at love, marrying his high school sweetheart, Rosary in 1950. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Rosary, his five children: Nancy, Clifford, Vincent, Rosary and John; seven grandchildren: Christopher, Philip, Rosary Michelle, Rosary Ellen, Sebastian, JoJo and Francesca and two great grandchildren: William and Isaac. The Mangano family has planned a Visitation for Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home located at 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL and a Funeral Mass for Monday, September 18, 2017, 8:30am, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church located at 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Sebastian Anthony Mangano's name to the American
Red Cross Hurricane Irma relief effort.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Uncle Seb. We loved visiting them in Miami and then enjoyed getting the handwritten Christmas letter from Aunt Rosary every year. Uncle Seb was such a kind and generous man who was blessed with a wonderful family and a strong faith. He will be missed. God bless him and his family.

I worked at Esso in Coral Gables with Seb for many years. Great co-worker, always pleasant and a true gentleman. It was a privilege to have worked with him.
