Dr. Tej Ram Gupta

Dr. Tej Ram Gupta, 72, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away on May 7, 2014. He was born in Katra, India on March 06, 1942 and was the eldest of three children. He was a man of character and principle. He loved his friends and was passionate about his family. He believed in education and moderation and epitomized living a balanced life. He grew up in small town of 1000 people but even at a young age enjoyed school and wanted to learn more. He pursued higher education as soon as he could and completed his Master's and first Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Roorkee University. In 1968 he married the love of his life, Sanjokta Gupta. In 1975 they moved to the United States to pursue further education at Virginia Tech. He completed his second Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics in 1977 and began teaching there as well. In 1979, he and the family moved to Ormond Beach where he joined ERAU. For the past 35 years he has dedicated his time and efforts to the wellbeing of thousands of students and was instrumental in developing ERAU's engineering reputation. Here he received many awards and was often chosen as the Most Outstanding Professor. It was also here in Ormond Beach, he focused on his greatest passion - his family and children. With them he preached education while maintaining balance. Sanjokta and he raised their 3 children, Amit, Ritu, and Amol. His proudest accomplishment was that his 3 children were successful in both their personal and professional lives. He felt blessed that his 9 grandchildren were always with him. He enjoyed living life to the fullest and was filled with inner contentment. He had a unique ability to develop deep connections with people on his first meeting and always found joy in other people's success and happiness. He dedicated his life to his friends and family and will be forever in their hearts. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sanjokta Gupta, son Amit Gupta and wife Radhika Gupta and their 3 children Shivani, Shefali,and Shivum; daughter Ritu Mehrotra and husband Shashi Mehrotra and their 3 children Nikash, Shreya, and Krisha; son Amol Gupta and wife Sheila Gupta and their three children Ria, Akshay, and Rani. He leaves behind in India his brother Purshotam Gupta and wife Rachna Gupta, sister, Sudesh Gupta, and her late husband, Madan Lal Gupta, mother-in-law, Veera Wali Gupta, beloved uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 10th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 University Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL.
