Thomas Herbert Ferguson

Thomas Herbert Ferguson, New Smyrna Beach, completed his earthly journey on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 after ninety-six years. He was born in Live Oak, Florida to the union of Thomas Alvin and Lula Hayes-Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a maintenance employee at Cape Canaveral. As a dedicated member of Allen Chapel AME Church, he served in numerous roles for over 60 years. Other than church activities, he enjoyed fishing, working in his vegetable garden and cooking. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Essie Mae Martin; five sisters and one brother: Mattie Ferguson, Tessie Ferguson-Richardson, Rochell Ferguson-Tutson, Bessie Ferguson-Elliott, Lula Ferguson-Scott and Andrew K. Ferguson. Survivors are multiple generations of nieces and nephews, including Grace Marie Tutson, Dayton, Ohio; locally, Mortimer T. Elliott.
