Victor Buckles Obituary

Victor Earl Buckles, age 89, of Bunnell, Flagler County, Florida passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 30, 2014 at his home surrounded by his
family. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 205 N. Pine Street, Bunnell, FL 32110. Calling hours will be held from 1:00pm- 2:00pm until the start of the service. He was the oldest son of Joseph Clarence Buckles and Caroline Salyards Buckles. His family was among the first pioneer families of Flagler County and his grandfather, Joseph Jackson Buckles, one of the first School Board members. Victor was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Setser Buckles; children Gary Buckles (Faye), Randy (Penny); grandchildren Vicki Buckles, Amanda Landis, Frank Buckles, Earl Buckles, Robert Buckles, Linda Buckles, thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his first wife Cora, son, Michael and brother, Gordon. Victor was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. While in the Navy he attended Perdue University and completed his study as an electrician. He was employed for 40 years by St. Regis Paper Co. / International Paper Co. as a supervisor of forestry. Recently he was honored as a 64 year member of the American Legion (past commander) and the "Forty and Eight". He loved barbe-cuing the beef for the annual Cracker Day festivities, preparing the food for the annual St. Regis/ International Paper fish fry and cooking for his friends and family at home. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Assn. He loved his home which he lovingly referred to as his "compound" and was the happiest when he was there surrounded by his family and friends. He never spoke an unkind word and was truly a godly man. All who knew him were blessed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256 or www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Very sorry for your loss. My Dad (Lloyd Buckels) was always convinced we were related to your family somehow but never found the exact connection.

I remember going to his home with my parents as a child for his BBQ's. He was always kind and enjoyed laughing. I know he is with Mrs. Cora in heaven smiling once again. The Earth has lost an inspiring soul, I am glad I was lucky enough to have met him.
