Funeral Services for Mr. William Oliver, Sr., 77, Daytona Beach, who passed on Monday, June 17, 2013, will be 11 AM Sat., June 29, 2013 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael Mitchell, Pastor, presiding and Minister Hadis Starr Parker, delivering the main eulogy. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 – 8:30 PM, today (Fri, June 28) at RJ Gainous Funeral Home and from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Sat. Mr. Oliver was born March 28, 1936 in Bainbridge, GA to the late Phinison and Ella Mae Oliver. After the un-timely death of Ella Mae Oliver, Phinison Oliver married Pinky Lee Stickland who became a devoted mother to William Oliver and his siblings. He was educated in the Decatur County, Georgia Public School System. William had many cousins and although Reather Flintroy was his cousin, she became like a sister. Years later, he moved to Holly Hill, FL and resided with his oldest sister, Ossie Mae Johnson, who introduced him to Josephine (Ted) Demps. On Jan. 20, 1958, William married Josephine and to this union, they were blessed with 7 children. William was an entrepreneur in the landscaping business and a skilled barber. He enjoyed cooking, fishing and reading. He attended St. Paul M. B. Church in his early years and accepted Christ as his personal Savior in Sept. 2009. He had an unshakeable faith that no matter what he faced, his faith kept him grounded. He was also preceded in death by a son: Marcus Oliver; 2 sisters: Ossie Mae Johnson and Delores Sanders. He leaves to cherish his memory: his former loving wife: Josephine Oliver; 6 loving children: Marie Oliver, Marilyn Oliver, William Oliver, Jr., Ricky Oliver, Vanessa Oliver, Ella Mae Oliver; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; a sister: Hattie Lee Gadson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
