Yongae Thorp Obituary

Yongae Kim Thorp, 58, died suddenly Monday, March 4, 2007, at her home in New Smyrna Beach. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Coronado Community Methodist Church, New Smyrna Beach, with the Rev. Robert C. Brown officiating. Yongae, known by her friends as Kim, was born November 12, 1948, in Seoul, Korea. She came to the United States with her family in 1971 and moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1980 after her husband, Charles W. Thorp, died in a car accident. Kim was a homemaker, a real estate agent, and a Korean language translator. She was also a fervent Christian, a passionate ballroom dancer, and a truly devoted mother. Kim and her joyous smile will be missed beyond words by her friends and family. She was predeceased by her husband, as well as her father, Edward Kim. She is survived by her daughter and only child, Vivien Kim Thorp, Brooklyn, N.Y.; her mother, Chong Ok Kim, Tustin, Calif.; brother, Mike Kim, Los Angeles, Calif.; and sisters, Dr. Jane Farmer, Eugene, Ore., and Kris Prouty, Coto de Caza, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coronado Community Methodist Church, 201 S. Peninsula Ave., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 to be entrusted to the Kim Thorp Memorial Fund.
