Donald Kordalis Obituary
Don E. Kordalis 84 passed away December 9, 2013 in Okeechobee, Florida, with his best friend at his side. Don was the son of Thomas and Bertha Kordalis. He was born February 12, 1929. Don was a popular stock car driver (#44) in the 60's and early 70's. He received many championship trophies for his efforts. He was also the driver to beat in drag racing.
Don retired from all racing in 1972 at mid-season at the Rolla race track as Mid-Season Champion. After retirement from auto racing he did multiple kinds of work. He joined the Sheriff Department as a deputy and then later as a detective for a couple of years. He also owned and operated Don Kordalis Motor Co. Don was always working on vehicles and did so until early this year when his health began to really slow him down.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bertha Kordalis. Don leaves behind his long time best friend Margie Cavener. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Greenlawn North Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday December 16, 2013 in the funeral home.

I also grew up watching this man race at our dirt track here in Springfield. He raced with my father ( Bill Conn ). Great memories, Rest in Peace Don.

I was 10 years younger than Don, and lusted over his black 50's Olds 88's...Loved watching him race at the Fairgrounds!

I grew up watching this man race at the Fairgrounds, He was one of my Friday night hero's along with Bud Martin, and Larry Phillips. I suppose that their will be racing in Heaven again among those Spartan's of the Raceways. I'll be listening for Bob Brown to calling the race.
