Doris Jenkins Obituary

Doris Jean "Jeanne" Jenkins

She was born February 16, 1943 in Kansas City, MO and went home to be with the LORD, April 7, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris K (O'Connor) Rhodes and father, Dusty Rhodes.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jim Jenkins of Springfield, MO, sons Kyle and fiancée' Kindal Good of Springfield, Jason and wife Maggie of Dublin, CA, 4 grandchildren Jeffery 18, Cassidy 18, Jack 14 & Jayme 13 all of Dublin, CA, brothers Mick Orthwein of Blue Eye, MO, Gary Rhodes and wife Keiko of Springfield, MO, brother-in-laws Joe and wife Pat of Springfield, Daniel and wife Pamela of Strafford, MO, nephew Jason Cash of Fayetteville AR and niece Lauren Rapp of Washington D.C.

Jeanne had an interest in a variety of collections but her interest in Santa Claus turned into a passion. The result was a collection that some might say was extreme. Special thanks to friends and family that contributed to her collection for over 40 years. Jeanne followed in the footprints of her mother, Doris, in her love and interest for playing contract bridge. She was a long time member of the local ACBL unit 101, attaining the rank of Silver Life Master.

She also enjoyed needlepoint, many kinds of card games and puzzles, scrapbooking, cooking, entertaining and had the opportunity to travel extensively. Her local business endeavors included Rhodes Concrete and Scenic Properties and was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Rogersville. She was outgoing, generous and a loving Christian lady.

When it came to her family, their happiness and taking care of them was the only thing that mattered to Jeanne. And when there were visits from or to her grandchildren, everything else took a back seat. She gave them all her love, caring development, travel and so many fun experiences. She was up for anything when it came to them and they will take a part of her with them throughout their lives and be better people and better Christians because of Jeanne.

Special thanks to friend, Joan, for the care and compassion over the last few months of her struggle with health issues.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 7 to 8pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home,1947 E. Seminole. Celebration Services will be Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10am in the funeral home, with Sid Allsbury officiating.

I miss you and still think of you all the time. I wish we could have had more time together, but it wasn´t meant to be. You were an angel on earth and now you´re an angel in heaven. Your memory is a blessing.

Five years later and I still remember you and our friendship every time I pass your house. Which is almost daily. I often think of what we would be doing if you were still here on Planet Earth. And yes, I still think of you when I see a Santa Claus. I feel your presence and know you are looking down. I miss you my angel friend!

Frank and I are so sad to learn of the passing of Jeanne. She was a fun and loving person and became our first friend in the neighborhood when we moved to Springfield. I will never see a Santa Claus and not think of her. She has a museum worthy collection. Jeanne was a good friend to everyone and I wil miss her good conversation and beautiful smile. My deepest sympathy to Jim and all the family. May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you and give you peace. Rest in peace my dear, dear friend,

She was one of my first friends from church when we moved here in 1979. We had a lot of fun and did a lot of things together. Their boys were same age as ours. When she was your friend, she was your friend. Our heartfelt sympathy to her family.
