Edna Melvin Obituary

Edna Melvin

Edna Mae Melvin, the daughter of Robert Hugh and Leora E. (Sparkman) Ramsey, was born May 1, 1930, near Clear Creek, MO. She left this life and began her eternal life with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the age of 82.

Edna married Walter Melvin on December 30, 1948. They were blessed with sixty four wonderful years together. Edna worked with Walter to start the Walter H. Melvin Painting Company. She went to architectural school and learned to take off blueprints to estimate building projects. She was way ahead of the times because this was something that was not done by women at that time. Without Edna by his side, Walter would not have made Melvin Painting the success that it became.

Edna gave her life to the Lord at a young age. She lived for him every day. She loved children and teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. She loved telling others about the Lord and all that He had done for her. Her greatest joy was leading someone to the Lord. Her second greatest joy was her family. She loved them dearly.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Robert; and her sister, Gladys West.

Edna is survived by her husband, Walter; son, Sam Melvin and wife Susan; daughter, Teresa Pedigo; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles and Doris Ramsey of Republic, Ruby Williams of Lansing, Michigan, John and Dixie Ramsey of Battlefield, Vance West of Bois D'Arc; and several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Assisting Aging Parents and Maple Wood Alzheimer's Special Care Center for all the love and care given to Edna.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013 at10:30 AM in Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, 2001 W. Walnut Lawn, with the funeral following at 11:30AM. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund.
