R. Cavaness Obituary
Cavaness, 87, of Springfield, was born on August 8, 1918, in Hollister, Idaho, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 25, 2005. He became manager of his father's grocery store in Salmon, Idaho, at the age of 18. Feeling God's call into full-time ministry, he attended Prairie Bible Institute in Canada and later graduated from Central Bible Institute in 1943. In June he married Avelone Rasmuson and became pastor of a church in Roy, Idaho. In 1945 he was ordained with the Assemblies of God and appointed as a missionary. He and Avie served in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, where they were involved in church planting and Bible school training. R.B. was the General Superintendent of Malaya for two years. After Avelone passed away in November 1984, R.B. traveled as Foreign Missions Representative for about four years. He also served in Palau for eight months. In 1989 R.B. married missionary Barbara Liddle and they ministered in Singapore for three years. For the past 11 years, he has been very effective at mentoring missionaries and making calls to pastors, raising monthly support for hundreds of world missionaries. Survivors include his devoted wife, Barbara two brothers, David Cavaness, Neosho, Mo., and Ben and Linda Cavaness, American Falls, Idaho four children, Paul and Karen Cavaness, Seymour, Mo. Christie and Walt Forester, San Carlos, Mexico Carole Brooks, Chattanooga, Tenn. and Cindy and Bob Simmons, Rising Fawn, Ga. and three grandchildren, Sara Boyts, Laura Cavaness, and Joey Goodwin. In addition to his parents and wife, Avelone, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia and Rosie and an infant son, Michael. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2005, in Central Assembly of God with burial following in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, in the Thieme-Shadel Funeral Service at Midtown. In his honor, memorials may be made to the R.B. Cavaness Scholarship Fund at Central Bible College, 3000 N. Grant, Springfield, MO 65803.
