Richard Wood Uhr, or "Dick" to his friends and family, passed in his residence in Yukon, Oklahoma, at age 67, on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, after a year long battle with cancer. Dick was born to Richard Joseph Uhr and Sara Francis Uhr in Springfield, Missouri on April 26, 1942. Dick was married to the love of his life and his savior, Dorothy, for 45 wonderful years. Dick earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physics from Southwest Missouri State University after completing a four year tour of duty in the United States Air Force. He moved his family to Yukon, Oklahoma in 1970, and was a loyal resident and volunteer to the community throughout his life. Dick also completed post-graduate studies via correspondence while working full-time to earn a second degree in mechanical engineering. He commuted daily to his employer, 3M, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, for 20 years, where he worked as a mechanical engineer. He was an avid runner and dedicated supporter of any athletic event involving his children and grandchildren. Dick was a dedicated believer and member of Town and Country Christian Church and served in several different leadership roles throughout his life. Dick is survived by his wife, Dorothy Uhr; son Matt Uhr and wife, Joy; daughter Mary Colton and husband, Randy; son-in-law Curt Beaman; four beautiful grandchildren, Kasady, Kenzie, and Rylee Uhr, and Jackson Beaman; his special friend, Memommy; and his good dog, Princess. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Joseph Uhr and Sara Francis Uhr; his sister, Helen Uhr; and his precious grandson, Joshua Dalton Uhr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 11 a.m., in Town and Country Christian Church, in Yukon, Oklahoma, officiated by Roger Woodrome. Graveside services will follow in Yukon Cemetery. Viewing will be in Yanda and Son Funeral Home, 1500 West Vandament, Yukon, Oklahoma, Thursday, August 27, from 12 to 8 p.m., and Friday, August 28, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. A special thanks to the Yukon Cancer Support Group for all the encouragement and friendship they provided.
