Robert Matherly Obituary
Robert Lee "Bob" Matherly passed away on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, following a courageous battle with both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Diseases. Bob's courage and selflessness during this period of life clearly demonstrated his spiritual faith. Bob was married to the former Bettye Jo Wheeler of Tahlequah, Okla., on April 6, 1954. Together, they raised three children: Pamela Jo Hodgson of Protem, Mo., married to Byrl Hodgson. John Steven Matherly of Lexington, Ky., married to the former Cynthia Burris. Sherri Lynn Compton, married to Michael Compton of Glasgow, Ky. Their grandchildren are Brad, Kurt and Jason Hodgson, Robert Matherly, Claire Chesser and Jesse Matherly, and Ashley Wisdom Morries and John Wisdom. They also have seven great-grandchildren.
Bob retired after 20 years of service with the Federal Government as the Safety Manager of the Medical Center for Federal Prisons in Springfield, Mo. Bob retired from the U.S. Medical Center for Prisoners in Springfield.
Bob and Bettye were lifelong Christians and their commitment to each other, their children and their faith was an inspiration to all.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye Matherly of Protem, MO.
Services will be at Forsyth Whelchel Funeral Chapel on Wed. Sept. 2, at 2 p.m.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Full Honors will be performed.
