Andrew Shanahan Obituary

Andrew (Andy) L. Shanahan

January 9, 2015

Andy passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9th, 2015 and is now reunited with his beloved bride of 56 years, Dale, who passed away in 2008. Born in Chicago, IL in 1933, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951, on his 18th birthday. Stationed at Davis-Monthan A.F.B. in Arizona he used his big breaking curve ball and unhittable fork ball to help lead the Mustangs to many division championships. He moved his growing family back to Chicago and then Downers Grove where he started a carpentry business. His love of sports continued, coaching baseball and basketball for many years. Moving to Ft. Myers, FL in 1978, he worked in the Plant Operations Department of Lee Memorial Hospital, where he worked for the next 25 years before retiring to enjoy time with his family and play some golf. His love and concern for his family will always be remembered. We will miss him greatly but are at peace knowing that he is together forever with his dear wife. Andy is survived by 8 children, 15 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to a service on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:30 am at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Chapel, 1589 Colonial Blvd. Ft. Myers. Donations in his memory to the Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer's Resource Center, 12468 Brantley Commons Court, Ft. Myers, FL 33907, would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoyed working with you Andy and loved our time together away from work... from softball to golf to spending time with you and Dale. We have so many great memories and our kids will forever remember your "Jenny Penny".
Give my mother a hug for me when you get to heaven; she passed the same day as you and I'm so sorry we can't get to your Memorial Service in Ft. Myers.
Our love and best wishes to the family.
