MARIAN VAN LENT Obituary

Marian V. Roth Van Lent, a long time Muscatine, Iowa, resident, died peacefully on November 29, 2010, in Fort Myers Florida. She was born in Muscatine, Iowa, on July 14, 1922, the daughter of Joseph M. and Bertha Schrup Roth. She married John J. Van Lent, a lifelong Muscatine resident, on October 10, 1946, at St. Mathias Church. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2003. They raised their family in Muscatine where they maintained a residence throughout their 57 years of marriage.
Marian was a graduate of Muscatine High School and Muscatine Junior College. She was active in the former Julia Elizabeth Home for more than twenty years, serving as board member and president. She also served as chairperson of the Muscatine County Easter Seals campaign and was a member of the Twentieth Century Club. She was a volunteer tutor for Guatemalan children at Catholic Hispanic Mission in Fort Myers.
Marian and John were active members of St. Mathias Church and Geneva Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing golf, was an avid bridge player and loved a tough game of Scrabble. Her family and friends will fondly remember her kindness, sharp sense of humor, wonderful laugh, and the homemade soup that came from her prolific kitchen. She was a wonderful support to all and will be deeply missed.
Those left to honor her memory include two daughters, Anne M. Van Lent of Princeton, New Jersey, and Jeanne M. Van Lent Curcio of Fort Myers, Florida; two grandchildren, Katherine Curcio of Etta, Mississippi, and PJ Curcio of Fort Myers, Florida; her younger sister, Katherine Roth Paetz of Bettendorf, Iowa, and one brother, John D. Roth of LeClaire, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Paul Roth, Joseph Roth Jr., and Robert Roth; and her sister, Geraldine Roth Asthalter.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at St. Mathias Church, 215 West Eighth Street, Muscatine, Iowa. A private burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser Street, Muscatine.
