Robert J.D. Obituary
Obituary
Robert Van Zandt Bucklin, M.D., J.D., was raised to eternal life September 19, 2001.
To cherish his memory he leaves his wife of 40 years, Patti; children: Barbara Frierson (CA), James (Ind), Rik (FMB) and Gary (TX) Bucklin, and two beloved 'Fur Angels' Yo-Yo Ma and Tai-Chi. Dr. Bucklin was predecased (June 25, 2000) by his eldest son Jay Blue Bucklin (NV), his sister Louise and parents (FL).
Dr. Bucklin graduated from Tulane Medical University and specialized in Pathology at hospitals in Michigan, Texas and California. He served in the US Army as Captain. He graduated with a Juris Doctor in Law from the South Texas College of Law. He trained to specialize in Forensic Pathology and practiced as a medical examiner/coroner in Texas (Austin, Houston and Gaveston), California (San Diego and Los Angeles) and Nevada (Las Vegas). He served as a medical expert nationally, owned 'Autopsy Experts' (NV),held faculty positions in several universities, and lectured and taught internationally. In 2000 he returned to live in FMB where he limited his work to unusual cases, consultations, lecturing and writing. He continued to be sought for expert work until his demise at age 85. Necessary to the Forensic Medical Physician, his main interest for some fifty years dwelt in the scientific study of the Shroud of Turin as the authentic burial cloth of Jesus Christ. He was an active participant in numerous scientific groups seeking the case and studying the evidence left by the image of the man on the Shroud. After all his years of meticulous research and actual examination of the cloth and the facts, Dr. Bucklin became totally convinced that the markings seen on the image evaluated through the eyes of an objective experienced forensic pathologist correlated with the reported historical events surrounding the torture and murder by crucifiction of the individual called Jesus Christ were uniquely descriptive of that one particular individual only. He was afforded many opportunities to present his conclusions through numerous media interviews, articles, books and TV and movie films on the subject.
Because of his everlasting quest to share his research and findings he was planning to embark on a new lecture series when he was called home to Heaven and greater works.
Honoring his wishes for no services, he bid 'Farewell until we meet before the throne' to his loved ones before his death.
In lieu of other, please send memorials to Hope Hospice, 9140 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33930, whose entire staff extended extraordinary love, care and support to him and his family.
