Thomas G. Judson

In Remembrance/In Memoriam

Thomas G. Judson, 79, died Friday, August 25, in Goshen, Connecticut at the home of his daughter. He was born March 24, 1927 in Big Rapids, Michigan the son of Willis C. and Genevieve M. Judson.

Following service in the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II, he attended Michigan State University, where he met his future wife Marilyn Reinig.

They were married on December 25, 1948. Following his graduation, they returned to Big Rapids where Tom took over the family business, Judson Hardware.

During his 35 years of ownership of Judson Hardware, Tom became widely known for his community and professional leadership, including service on the original dealer advisory board of Cotter and Company, which is now known as True Value Hardware. He retired in 1985 and moved, with Marilyn, to their favorite vacation spot, Sanibel Island Florida.

During their 15 years together in Sanibel, Tom and Marilyn continued their community involvement, including Tom's leadership in the Power Squadron, San-Cap Lion's Club, and as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. Friends and family will best remember Tom for his positive, up-beat attitude even in his final battle with cancer.

Tom was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Marilyn. He is survived by his son Chuck Judson and his wife Sue of Traverse City, Michigan and daughter Polly Judson and her husband Joseph Powers of Larchmont, New York; grandchildren Alexandria Judson, Bailey Judson, Mark Powers and Patrick Powers.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m. Friday, September 1, at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids with arrangements entrusted to the

Mohnke Funeral Home, Big Rapids.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Tom's name be directed to the Judson Memorial Endowment at The Ferris Foundation, directed to the attention of Carla Miller, Prakken 101, 420 Oak Street, Big Rapids, Michigan 49307, or your local Salvation Army.
