GLENDA TAYLOR Obituary

GLENDA SUE TAYLOR Glenda Sue Taylor, 82, of Wellston passed away at her home February 9, 2024. Born April 28, 1941, to Glen R. and Thelma Josephine (Wright) Miller in Sparks, Okla., Sue was their pride and joy. Sue attended her early school years at Kickapoo School in rural Lincoln County, and White Rock School through the eighth grade, then graduating from Wellston High School in the class of 1959 as salutatorian. During her college years, she attended Bethany Nazarene College, OU, OSU and UCO, graduating in 1963 from OSU with a degree she would use throughout her lifetime. Always loving a challenge, she received her Master's Degree in Vocational Home Economics from UCO Summa cum Laude. In 1962, she started dating the love of her life, Ira Taylor, and on March 10, 1963, they were married in Chandler at Church of the Nazarene. Sue was a lifelong member of Nazarene Church. Sue started her career in education as a student teacher in Crescent, Okla. Next, moving to St. Louis, Okla., teaching Home Economics. After Ira returned from Korea, they were stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri where she taught kindergarten. She then moved to Pott. Co. Dept. of Child Welfare. In the 1970s, she was Director of Food & Nutrition for McLoud Schools. And, finally retiring from teaching at Meeker High School, after many years where she received the teacher of the year award and the KOCO teacher of the year. During her employment at Meeker, she was the advisor for both FHA and YHO chapters where she enjoyed guiding young lives in a positive direction. In 1987, Sue and Ira, along with their daughter Emberly, opened Sue's Sewing Shoppe in Shawnee where she taught classes and inspired many with her love and knowledge of sewing, quilting and BERNINA sewing machines. She enjoyed sharing that knowledge with both her high school students as well as her adult students. Later in life, Sue and Ira helped their youngest daughter Kelsey open Coffee 'N Crafts in Shawnee. One of Sue's favorite early memories was driving the tractor alongside her daddy at the age of four. She also began learning to sew on her grandmother's treadle sewing machine about the same age. During the years raising their two older daughters, Emberly and Latisha, Ira and Sue and the girls spent many days making memories camping, fishing and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandmother Josie. Sue, Thelma and Josie planned several Campbell family reunions together throughout the years. Sue always made sure her daughters were dressed beautifully. Many times, making Emberly and Latisha dresses or outfits that matched. The kindergarten teacher in her taught her daughters many nursery rhymes and they would all sing songs like "You Are My Sunshine" and "A Bicycle Built for Two" while driving in the car. Sue was a hard worker and often could be found helping Ira dig a ditch with her own shovel, planting a garden or manning a booth at a fair for days, promoting her business. Sue and Ira traveled to many countries for enjoyment as well as to help missionaries through their church organization, Work and Witness. Sue made lifelong friends wherever she would go. Sue is survived by husband of 60 years, Ira of the home, daughters Emberly Markwell and husband Dale of Meeker, Latisha Aguirre of Shawnee, Kelsey Hart of Wellston, grandsons Jeffery Markwell and wife Christine of Shawnee, Anthony Pinelo of Shawnee and Beckett Hart of Wellston. As well as cousins, extended family and a host of a lifetime of friends. Visitation for Sue will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the funeral home. The family will be present from 5 - 7 p.m. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, at Lehman Funeral Home and interment will follow in Oak Park Cemetery of Chandler. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
