Beverly Ann Simms Cornett, 79, of Sweetwater and formerly of McCreary County, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Strong, humble and kind with a servant's heart - that was Beverly, or as all the kids called her, "Gon-Gon." She smiled often and her laugh was pure. She appreciated her blessings and the simple joys in life that the rest of us take for granted. We tend to compare our lives to those around us and we become envious of what we don't have. You would never get that impression from her because she had a grateful spirit. She never worried or complained about the things she did without because she was thankful for all that she had. She was content, as we all should be.
Whether it was her family, her friends, the kids she babysat or her many animals throughout the years, she was always loving and caring for others. She loved being a wife and mother and she was very good at it! She enjoyed solving word searches and puzzles and watching "Gunsmoke." In earlier years, she and her husband "Lovie" were on a bowling league and were members of the local Moose Lodge. She was happily married to her best friend for 51 years.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Francis "Bud" Simms and Laura Virginia "Ginny" Worsdell McLeary; husband, James C. "Jimmy" Cornett; son, Jimmy Cornett Jr.; and brother, Marion Francis Simms.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Jackie Amos of Strunk, Ky., and Penny and Billy Barrett of Sweetwater; siblings, Patricia McLeary and Deloach Kahl (Michael) of Essex, Md., Bryan Simms (Dotti) of Baltimore, Md., and Brenda Scruggs (Bob) of Lake City, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Simms of Canon City, Colo., and Molly Leydig of Strunk, Ky.; grandchildren, Derek Amos, Eddie Bailey, Jackie Ball (Jesse) and Nicole Rogers (Jon); and great-grandchildren, Damian, Malichi, Drake, Charlie, Jaxon, Jazlyn, Jace, Gage, Alexis, Grayson, Grant, Brooklyn, Camden and Kenleigh.
Services honoring and remembering Beverly Cornett were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore, Md.
