Alfred Douglas Younger Sr.

Mr. Alfred Douglas Younger, Sr., "Home Boy", 72, of Naruna died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, in Lynchburg. He was born July 14, 1936, in Campbell County to the late Johnnie V. and Fannie Clark Younger. A brother, Walter J. Younger also preceded him in death.

He joined Evergreen Baptist Church at an early age. He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy with 20 years of honorable service. After his naval retirement, he gained employment at BandW and retired after 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mae Catherine Calloway Younger; nine children, Essie C. Poe, Theresa Y. Davis, Althea Y. Green, Fannie Boyd, Viola Younger, Dietrich Callaham, Alfred Younger Jr., Johnnie Younger Sr. and James L. Younger; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Jones, Doris Y. Carter, Annie R. Miller and Naomi Gilliam; three brothers, the Rev. Paul Younger Sr., John Roger Younger Sr. and Roy Younger Sr.; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friend.

Funeral services with military rites will be held 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Naruna with interment in the church cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to [email protected]. Jeffress Funeral Home And Cremation Service of Brookneal is in charge of arrangements.
